When the 17-ton ML&SR was drawn out of the Engineering Shop at Ruddington on Saturday 16 September, GCRN Director Ron Whalley was in charge.  There was a classic “prototype for everything” moment as he used Steve Turner’s Class 47 no. 47492 to effect a major yard shunt to position the vintage 129-year-old 6-wheel carriage for the GCR Gala event the following day.  Not to be outdone by modern diesel power, our carriage no.946 was also paired up with ex-NCB Hunslet Austerity 0-6-OST Whiston – coincidentally also owned by Steve Turner!   Big thanks all round….
