As well as being our liaison with the Edinburgh-based Royal Scots Regiment in respect of our gem of a memorial carriage, Colonel Cowan is a wholehearted railway supporter and of his son’s advance of an enthralling project, a charity which focuses on the reality and effect of the Battle of Waterloo on the history of these Islands and Peoples.
The Charity arranges tours and lectures and also supports those of former armed services in a very practical way. One manifestation of this is Waterloo Uncovered, planning of a truly massive diorama of the crucial 1815 Battle of Waterloo. Ultimately, the model is expected to cover the size of a full football pitch, and to engage 110,000 scale participants moulded then painted painstakingly in the appropriate period regimental uniforms. As support of our connection with the Royal Scots Regiment Our Patron is suggesting that our Memorial carriage might travel again by road, via Leith then on to the Scottish Rail Museum on the Bo’ness and Kinneil – and one day might even be seen in the Imperial War Museum London – but not immediately…
