End of the line ~ for one of our long-serving Trustees:
It is with huge sadness that the GCR Rolling Stock Trust announces the death of Mr. Pat Sumner. He – alongside the late Mr. Richard Tilden Smith and Mr. Anthony Keeble (known to all as ‘Tony’) was a central figure in developing the Trust from AD2000. Being technically experienced in railway matters, he became an effective, highly valued and long-serving Trustee, helping define and guide its restoration aims and techniques ~ all of which fitted perfectly into the aims of conservation and restoration of as many Great Central Rolling Stock designs as then remained in existence.

It is sad to feel that Pat could not see the completion of our three Open Tourist Third Saloons ~ popularly dubbed Barnums. However, we know how much he contributed to the development of the Trust, and how hard he had worked to enable the rest of us to complete our first challenge. Without his patient and supportive work and manner, little would have been achieved. He had helped lay the foundations for us to continue the high standard of workmanship – to Exhibition Standards – in our on-going restoration of these ground-braking carriages.
